contacts+messaging backup for Windows Phone image 4

Microsoft’s new system settings app ‘contacts+messaging backup‘ lets you backup your Contacts & Messages to an SD Card on your Windows Phone. This is a big relief for those who wants to have a local backup of their contacts & messages as an added safety.

In addition to the above, you can always use the brilliant ‘Transfer my data‘ app (for Lumia devices only) from Microsoft to do the same.

The app has a Windows 10’ish style icon & offers the below stuff

Contacts + Message Backup app is a Settings app that enables you to make backup of all your contacts (in VCF format) and messages (SMS & MMS including attachments) to SD card (in XML format) for later restore to same or another Windows Phone.

Backup is stored in ‘backup+restore’ folder on the SD card.

Known Issue: Restoring a backup of messages from a dual SIM Windows Phone restores all messages to message store for the first SIM/slot.

Note 1 – To use this app, please go to Settings on your Windows Phone.  This app will NOT appear in your list of installed apps.

Note 2 – It’s good to install this app only if you have a device that supports SD Card otherwise the app will just become a part of your settings with no way to uninstall it.
